Napa local joins St. Helena Office of Northern California's Largest Community Bank

Napa, CA, June 19, 2008—Maxine "Max" Mendoza, a Napa native who has been a fixture in the local banking industry for more than two decades, has been appointed assistant vice president and St. Helena office manager at Mechanics Bank.

Mendoza, who grew up in Napa and attended local schools there, worked at Napa National Bank for 14 years before the community bank's acquisition by Wells Fargo in 2001. Following that, she joined The Vintage Bank. When Oregon-based Umpqua Bank acquired Vintage in 2007, the idea of joining a more stable, community-focused bank became appealing. Customers and former colleagues had migrated to Mechanics Bank, the 103-year-old bank that is the largest community bank in Northern California, and she began to consider doing likewise.

"I was always impressed by Mechanics Bank's continuity. They have been around more than a century, which is important to me," said Mendoza. "And the office is even in the former location of Napa National Bank--with some of my former colleagues back as my coworkers. It really feels like coming home--with a sense of assurance that this time, we're here to stay."

Mendoza, a St. Helena resident, also feels at home with Mechanics Bank's culture of community involvement. She has been a member of Soroptimist International of St. Helena since 1990, and has been involved with the local blood bank, Creative Living Luncheon and Harvest Festival Fun Run & Walk event, and the St. Helena Chamber of Commerce. She is a Leadership Napa Valley Graduate from Class XIII.

For more than a century, Mechanics Bank has been committed to helping people build prosperous communities as a trusted financial partner, forging lasting relationships through teamwork, respect and integrity. The $2.7 billion independent bank, headquartered in Richmond, California, offers personal banking, business banking, trust, brokerage and wealth management services through 33 offices across Northern California.
