OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland Athletics “Step Up to the Plate for Education” program, sponsored by Mechanics Bank, will continue to raise funds during the 2007 season to assist schools in the Bay Area and Northern California. Schools will have the opportunity to sell A’s tickets for select 2007 games and the A’s will donate a portion of each ticket proceed directly back to the schools.
Individuals, businesses and other organizations can purchase discounted Field Level Outfield ($28) or Plaza Level ($20) tickets for specified games and the A’s will donate $10 or $8, respectively, directly back to the schools designated by the purchasers. Order forms are available at all Mechanics bank offices and through participating schools.
Since its inception in 2004, the A's "Step Up to the Plate for Education” program, sponsored by Mechanics Bank, has raised over $150,000 for Contra Costa County schools. Over the past three years, this program has raised over $350,000 for school districts throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Santa Clara, and Stanislaus Counties.
“The ‘Step Up to the Plate for Education’ fundraising program provides local schools with the opportunity to support programs that may be affected by widespread budget cuts,” stated A’s President Michael Crowley. “This program continues the A’s commitment to education, proving that working together with the community can make a positive impact in the Bay Area and Northern California.”
“This is an outstanding opportunity to make a difference to the communities that have supported us for the past 100 years,” said Steve Buster, Mechanics Bank Chief Executive Officer. “It’s a perfect illustration of the important role of community banks, which put deposits and profits to work back in the communities they serve.”
Mechanics Bank is headquartered in Richmond, California. The century-old family-owned community bank is one of the largest independent banks headquartered in Northern California, with more than $2.7 billion in assets.
