NAPA, CA, February 23, 2011 -- When people think of Napa, sunlit vineyards, rolling hills and great wine and food probably come to mind. But it’s the everyday heroes—teachers, healthcare workers, business people, community boosters and volunteers—who truly make Napa the kind of community people want to call home.
That’s why, for the fifth year in a row, Mechanics Bank is co-sponsoring “Celebrating Community,” the Napa Valley Community Awards program with the Napa Chamber Foundation. The May 24th event at the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel and Spa is a chance to pay tribute to everyday heroes for their outstanding leadership, contributions and achievements.
“The great thing about this event is that everyone who lives in Napa can play a part by nominating an outstanding Napa Hero in one of the categories,” said Thomas Kawazoe, Vice President and Private Banking Manager in Napa Valley. “We feel honored to be a part of this annual program.”
Nominations will be accepted through Friday, March 25th. Additional awards (not selected by public nominations) will recognize the Outstanding Teacher and Outstanding Public Safety Person of the Year.
“As state funding for education continues to be cut, programs like this are critical,” says Erwin Reeves, Vice President & Community Development Manager at Mechanics Bank. “My mom was a teacher and I grew up seeing the impact that a simple gift of school supplies can make on children and classrooms. Mechanics Bank was eager to help and thrilled to be able to "adopt" Downer Elementary. This program is a perfect fit for our mission to support the communities we serve.”
The fifth anniversary luncheon also will recognize all past winners. “This event has become a Napa community tradition,” said Lisa Batto, CEO at Napa Chamber of Commerce. “We’re very excited that it has grown into such an important annual event—and an opportunity to remember what makes this such a special place to live.”
Nomination forms are available at www.napachamberfoundation.org. For more information, call the Chamber at 707-226-7455.
