Opening a New Account - After You Apply FAQs

Thank you for your interest in becoming a client of Mechanics Bank. Below are frequently asked questions regarding our online account opening process. Please contact us if you have any questions.

When will I be contacted once I have submitted my application online?

A representative from our Client Service Call center will contact you regarding your application status within 2 -3 business days after submitting.

When will I be able to use my account once it is submitted online and approved by Mechanics Bank?

Once we receive your opening deposit we will process your debit card and check order requests. Once you have received your card and/or checks you may begin to use your account. If you need to access the funds in your account before receiving your debit card or checks, please stop by one of our offices.

If I open a Personal Checking account, can I choose my own Personal Identification Number (PIN) for my Debit Card?

You cannot choose your Debit Card PIN during the online account opening process. Once your Personal Checking account is opened, your Debit Card and PIN will be sent in a separate mailer. However you may take the card into any office and change the PIN to a number that you choose.

How do I order checks for the account that I opened online?

After your online application is approved, you can order checks by calling our Client Service Call Center. We are available during our regular business hours of Mon – Fri: 7 AM – 7 PM, Sat – Sun: 9 AM – 2 PM at 800-797-6324.

How much do checks cost?

Check prices vary depending on the quantity and style of checks. Certain select checking accounts are eligible for a free first box of checks (limit 200).

When will I receive my debit card and checks?

Once you fund your account, your debit card and check order requests will be processed and mailed. You should expect to receive these items within 7 to 10 calendar days from the receipt of your funding.

How do I set up Direct Deposit once my account is opened?

Contact your employer or direct deposit issuer directly to fill out the necessary Direct Deposit forms. You will need your new account number and Mechanics Bank ABA/Routing and Transit Number, which is 121102036. In certain cases you will need a voided check from your new account.

After I open my account, when can I access it with Personal Online Banking?

At least one account must be open before Personal Online Banking access can be set up. You can sign up online or by calling the Client Services Call Center at 800-797-6324 during our regular business hours of Mon – Fri: 7 AM – 7 PM, Sat – Sun: 9 AM – 2 PM.

When will I begin to earn interest on any interest bearing Checking, Savings account or Certificates of Deposits that I apply for online?

You will begin earning interest once the funds are deposited in your account. The interest rate for your new accounts will be effective for the date in which we receive your funds.
