Richmond, CA, July 22, 2010 -- John Wells has been named Senior Vice President - Chief Credit Officer at Mechanics Bank, overseeing the bank’s credit administration, loan servicing, and special assets groups. He reports to the Executive Vice President of Enterprise Risk, William Schwerin.

A seasoned banker with a diverse and comprehensive real estate background, Wells joined Mechanics Bank as Senior Vice President and interim head of the Real Estates Industries Group in May 2008, then served as the head of Special Assets, and most recently as interim chief of Corporate Banking. Before joining Mechanics Bank he was with City National Bank where he was a Senior Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager. He also has held senior positions with U.S. Bank, Bank One Corporation and Sanwa Bank, where he began his banking career in 1989.

Also promoted were Maria Palmer, who becomes Senior Vice President – Loan Operations and Jennifer Ballard, who becomes Senior Vice President – Loan Services. Both report to Wells.
