Dick Stephenson Appointed to Executive Committee

Richmond, CA, March 16, 2010 -- Richard G. (Dick) Stephenson, the Bank’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel, has been named to Mechanics Bank’s Executive Committee. Dick will be joining Steve Buster, Steve Barlow, Bill Schwerin, Kirsten Weisser, Clint Chew and Judy Ditchey on the Bank’s top management team.

Dick came to Mechanics Bank in April 2009, having completed a five-year stint with Washington Mutual Bank in Seattle, serving as SVP and General Counsel, Home Loans and Consumer Lending Division and, most recently, SVP and Chief Compliance Officer for the bank. Earlier in his career, Dick was a senior lawyer with Morrison & Foerster LLP in San Francisco, Senior Counsel for Bank of America in San Francisco and Assistant General Counsel for Union Bank in Los Angeles.

Dick has brought his strong analytical and strategic leadership skills to Mechanics Bank, as well as his substantive expertise in laws and regulations governing the business of banking. Dick’s proven ability to build strong relationships with audit committees, boards of directors and bank regulators will also be an important part of his role on the Executive Committee.
