RICHMOND, CA, September 28, 2010 — The Contra Costa College Foundation (CCCF) will honor Mechanics Bank for its ongoing support at the 11th Annual Sy Zell Swinging for Scholarships Invitational Golf Tournament and Awards Banquet on October 4th. The event takes place at the Mira Vista Golf and Country Club in El Cerrito.

The nonprofit tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization, founded in 1967 by faculty members, serves as a repository for donations to scholarships for incoming, continuing, and transferring CCC students. Every person, regardless of resources, has access to education and training at Contra Costa College because of the resources developed by CCCF.

“The mission of CCCF is very much in line with our own mission to help build prosperous communities,” said William Schwerin, Executive Vice President, Enterprise Risk Management at Mechanics Bank. “For over 100 years we’ve been reinvesting the deposits and profits from West Contra Costa County back into the community. We are proud to be a part of this highly effective organization, which makes a big difference in the lives of West County families. CCCF helps young men and women who otherwise might not have a shot at attending college. It’s a great example of what people can accomplish working together.”

In addition to financial support, Mechanics Bank provides pro bono management of the CCCF investment portfolio and has had a member on the Foundation’s Board of Directors for over 20 years. Members of the CCCF Board promote the College and encourage individuals, organizations, and businesses to invest financial resources in CCC students and programs.

Currently, Mr. Schwerin and Martin McNair, a long-time Mechanics Bank Board member, sit on the board of CCCF.
