MECHANICS BANK SPONSORS "BIG TEAM REGATTA" FOR SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

Fundraiser helps provide sailing instruction for youth and special needs individuals.

Richmond, CA, September 28, 2009 -- Mechanics Bank once again will be a Gold Sponsor of the Big Team Regatta San Francisco, to be held October 2nd. This corporate sailing challenge will benefit the youth sailing programs of Treasure Island Sailing Center (TISC).

Mechanics Bank also will field a team for the event, captained by David Zeigler, Vice President Corporate Banking. Crew members are Courtney Graham, Wealth Management; Douglas Feliciano, Vice President Wealth Management; and a sailor yet to be named.

TISC, a non-profit sailing center on the San Francisco Bay, provides access, facilities, and sailing instruction to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds, levels, and physical abilities. Its wide array of programs includes Youth and Adaptive outreach sailing programs for over 750 youngsters (7-17), including beginner, intermediate, and racing classes. The goal is to instill life skills of teamwork, communication, decision-making, and responsibility, keeping kids in school through learning the sport of sailing The adaptive sailing program helps disabled athletes prepare and compete in sailboat racing, even against fully able-bodied individuals.

“It’s an amazing event,” said Chris Cole, Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager of Private Banking at Mechanics Bank. “Participants get to spend half a day learning to sail and then spend the 2nd half of the day competing against other corporate teams in one of the world’s most beautiful bays. For me the best part is having the satisfaction of knowing we’re doing something that will change the lives of children in our community--that is important to me and to the bank. But we also need volunteers to help on shore throughout the day, so please come be a part of something great. TISC works with such organizations as the YMCA, SF Boys and Girls Clubs, Malcolm X Academy, and I Have a Dream Foundation, among others, but like most nonprofit organizations, they’ve been heavily impacted by the economy. This year, supporting the event is more critical than ever.”

Anyone interested in volunteering for the event or making a contribution may contact Chris Cole or David Ziegler at (415.249.0300.) For more information about the group and the Big Team Regatta, please visit the Big Team Regatta Website.
