WALNUT CREEK, CA, July 25, 2013 — Mechanics Bank has once again been named one of the Bay Area’s Top Corporate Philanthropists, by the San Francisco Business Times (SFBT). The bank’s total giving of $670,005 in 2012 placed it at No. 48 on list. Among community banks, only one ranked higher. Mechanics Bank ranked even higher in cash giving as a percentage of profit and cash giving per employee (based on the number of Bay Area employees during the year).

The bank has consistently been above the 1% level in cash giving as a percentage of profit, a prestigious and select category, since it began participating in the SFBT survey. In 2012, Mechanics Bank gave 2.04% of its profit to nonprofits in its service areas, placing it 12th on the list of all Bay Area companies participating in the survey. And, since its centennial year in 2005, Mechanics Bank has committed to give at least $1,000 per employee, and has sustained that level even during the recession. Last year, giving per employee rose substantially, to $1,238.

Mechanics Bank Chairman Dianne D. Felton, says, “As a community bank we consider ourselves to be a partner with our customers. We recognize that it is very important for their success that the communities in which they live and work be strong. That means from top to bottom the community needs to be supported. For that reason we encourage our folks to be generous as individuals and we strive to be generous as an organization.”

In addition to its cash contributions, Mechanics Bank also gives each employee the equivalent of one-and-a-half days of personal time for volunteer work, which adds up to thousands of hours a year.
