Mobile Banking Security Measures

Mechanics Bank uses a multi-layered approach to provide you additional mobile banking security:

  • Customers cannot access their account information through Mobile Banking unless they are first enrolled in Online Banking.
  • Multi-factor authentication in Mobile Banking safeguards access to your account information. Advanced encryption prevents unauthorized access and guards your personal information.
  • Secure information is not stored on your mobile device (when using Mechanics Bank Mobile Banking apps, we strongly recommend that you never use the Save User ID function).
  • We will never request or display personally identifiable information when you use Text Banking. This includes your PIN, email address, personal address, user ID and password.

While we leverage multiple-layers of protection through our secure Mobile Banking, there are a few things you can do to help minimize fraud and protect your personal information.

Report Your Lost Or Stolen Device Immediately

If your mobile device is lost or stolen, please contact Mechanics Bank at 877.265.6324 so we can help disable mobile device access and help you change your access credentials for Online and Mobile Banking.

Update Your Online and Mobile Banking Access Credentials

If your mobile device is lost or stolen, we strongly suggest you log into Online Banking at and change your username (User ID), password, and security options by selecting the My Settings link at the top right of the online banking screen. Within the My Settings screen, also review and remove your phone number from receiving alerts & notifications through Text Banking. These steps will ensure that your device’s phone number is not associated with sending data that could compromise the security behind multi-factor authentication.

Manage Your Mobile Security

  1. Lock your mobile device with a personal identification number (PIN) or password
  2. Most mobile devices have built-in password protection. Enabling this option will protect your device if it is ever lost or stolen. Configure your device to automatically lock after a certain period of time. Even after your device is password-protected, never leave it unattended in public — lost and stolen devices continue to be the number-one threat to mobile users.

  3. Don't modify your mobile device
  4. Modifying the software on your device can leave you vulnerable to viruses and spyware. By hacking, unlocking, or tampering with your device, you can significantly weaken the security of your device. Protect your device by using it only in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

  5. Only install applications (apps) from trusted sources

  6. Only download apps from trusted sources and trusted developers (generally your mobile service provider or mobile device manufacturer’s marketplace). Also make sure to read reviews of apps and take a moment to read an application’s privacy policy to be aware of what apps are doing with your private data. 

  7. Leverage app and mobile device security settings

    • Be cautious about granting applications access to your personal information (inlcuding your location) or letting the app perform functions like accessing your contacts or posting on your behalf.
    • Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not in use. Set Bluetooth-enabled devices to “non-discoverable” when Bluetooth is enabled.
    • Be wary of links in unsolicited email or text messages (both SMS and MMS) - links may contain malware (malicious software) that can be installed on your device.
    • Leverage security settings or apps that enable you to find your mobile device and to delete (or "wipe") all of its data if necessary.

  8. Keep your device software updated

    • Download software updates for your mobile device’s operating system when prompted. This way, you’ll always have the latest security updates and ensure that your device is always performing at an optimal level.

  9. Back up your data regularly

    • Many smartphones and tablets have the capability to backup data wirelessly, so you can quickly restore the information on your phone if the data is lost or accidentally deleted. If you lose your device, you will still be able to retrieve your information.
    • Download software updates for your mobile device’s operating system when prompted. This way, you’ll always have the latest security updates and ensure that your device is always performing at an optimal level.

  11. When using your mobile browser and typing in personal information, make sure the website is secure by looking for the http“s” in the web address or that it displays a lock symbol..

  12. Be careful where you click

  13. Be wary of links in unsolicited email, text messages, or social media sites. Links may contain malware (malicious software) that can be installed on your device and compromise security.

  14. Never store confidential information on your device

    • Never keep personal confidential information like user IDs, passwords, social security numbers, or PIN numbers on your mobile device. This information can compromise the security of your mobile device.
    • Always wipe data on your old phone before donating, reselling or recycling it.

  15. Set strong passwords for mobile applications

  16. Don’t reuse passwords or use names or numbers that could be guessed by looking at other information on your phone. Try to use numbers, symbols and capital letters in your password and change it frequently.
