ROSEVILLE, CA, March 18, 2011 -- Kash Gill, who until late last year served as Mayor of Yuba City, has joined the Roseville Corporate Banking Office of Mechanics Bank as a Vice President-Senior Relationship Manager.
A seasoned banker whose career has been centered in and around Sutter County, Mr. Gill began his career with Wells Fargo Bank in Yuba City. He then joined Feather River State Bank as the Vice President and Manager of the Yuba City branch, and over the course of six years, tripled the agricultural loan portfolio.
Most recently, Mr. Gill was with Butte Community Bank as the Senior Vice President/Regional Branch Administrator for a network of bank branches. He was instrumental in building Butte Community Bank’s agriculture portfolio and continued to increase the portfolio when Butte Community Bank was acquired by Rabobank, a Dutch-owned financial organization. In 2006, Mr. Gill was elected to the Yuba City council and subsequently appointed as Vice Mayor and then Mayor. His term came to a close at the end of 2010.
“Agricultural lending has been a relatively small focus for Mechanics Bank but this year we intend to place emphasis on expanding our portfolio of agriculture-related relationships,” Senior Vice President and Senior Manager Tim Kassis said. “California – and in particular the Sacramento and surrounding regions – continues to be the top U.S. producer and processor of several key crops. We’re delighted to bring aboard someone with Mr. Gill’s expertise as we move forward in this area.”
Mr. Gill emigrated with his family from India as a young child, and the entire family worked in farming for many years. Mr. Gill and his wife, Neena, still farm 200 acres of peaches, prunes, and walnuts in Yuba City. They have three children, Harveen, Rajan and Preya.
A graduate of California State University in Chico with a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural business, Mr. Gill is also a graduate of the California Agricultural Leadership Program and the Graduate School of Banking Boulder, Colorado. In addition to his public service as Mayor, Vice-Mayor, and Council member for Yuba City, he has served as Chair of the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce; Board member of the Fremont-Rideout Hospital Foundation; and Board member of the Sutter Health Foundation.
