MECHANICS BANK RECEIVES RECOGNITION FOR ITS CORPORATE PHILANTHROPY
Richmond, CaliforniaCalif, July 21, 2008—Mechanics Bank has been honored by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the region's "Top 100 Corporate Philanthropists." The 103-year old bank was recognized at a breakfast event on July 17 at the Hilton Hotel in San Francisco.
It is the second time the bank has received the award, which is based on the percentage of revenues an organization commits to Bay Area nonprofits. In addition to making the "top 100" list, Mechanics Bank was lauded as one of only 19 organizations that gave 1 percent or more of their revenues.
"Supporting our communities is in our DNA," said Edward "Eddie" Downer III, chairman of Mechanics Bank. "When my grandfather founded Mechanics Bank 103 years ago, he was well-known in the community as the man you could trust to look out for your interests. He saw community banking as an opportunity for local individuals to safely put their money into investments that would benefit their friends and neighbors--and to use the profits to help those in need. I'm proud that more than a century later, we are still following that model."
In recent years, Mechanics Bank has increased its charitable contributions to more than $1,000 per employee. More than 350 local organizations receive support from the bank, which emphasizes programs that benefit children and education. The bank also encourages employees to serve on boards and committees of civic and charitable groups.
For more than a century, Mechanics Bank has been committed to helping people build prosperous communities as a trusted financial partner, forging lasting relationships through teamwork, respect and integrity. The $2.7 billion independent bank, headquartered in Richmond, California, offers personal banking, business banking, trust, brokerage and wealth management services through 34 offices across Northern California.
